Last weekend saw the second annual Irish Blogger Conference hit Dublin with a full house of Ireland’s top bloggers, top techies, and social media gurus all gathered in one place! And yours truly was lucky enough to be mingling with this amazing lot! Emma O’Farrell and Fiona Reid of Cool Events did a superb job of organising and pulling together this momentous task and made it look easy doing it! Kudos ladies.
Full house!
The Location:
Radisson Blu Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin.
The Event:
Upon arrival I met up with my blogger squad Nirina Plunkett, Filomena Kaguako, Lorna Duffy, MeiLing Tong, Lisa McLoughlin and met some new faces along the way including eventual “Mr. Best Dressed” of the conference, Irish male fashion blogger Damien Broderick – seriously stylish! (Links below!)
Our compère/entertainment for the day came in the form of the über talented and just plain funny Marcus O’Laoire. Every “tech talk”/conference should have a Marcus O’Laoire, who provided some laughs and hilarious segways from one speaker intro to another! Oh and group selfies to rival that Oscar Selfie…can’t forget those!
Holly Shortall and Jamie Tuohy took over the Social Media for the event and did a fab job to keep up with the sheer volume of the tweeting power within the room!
Teen Line (a free-phone service for Teenagers who need to talk to/need help from an outside source) and The Irish Blogger Conference partnered, to raise awareness and funds for Teen Line.
Bloggers doing what they do best, got the #TeenLine and #irishbloggerconference trending on the Tweet machine!
Irish TV were there to cover the event and offer some exposure to up and coming bloggers.
Short intervals between segments allowed for browsing the surrounding stands and for some much needed light refreshments!
The Inglot Make-up stand laden with goodies from a brand I have longed to try! I left with some recommendations and quite the list!
Each and every speaker brought a little something to the conference to create an overall inspirational, entrepreneurial, enthusiastic energy to the event, keeping interest spiked throughout the day!
Some highlights for me were:
Alison Canavan:
Model, Nutrition and Wellness coach.
Alison on the practice of meditation:
Consistency is key! Just 10 minutes a day –every day.
Alison had us all meditate for a couple of minutes to re-group before sharing her story of coping with anxiety and some tips and tricks on how to lessen those overwhelming feelings associated with it. The importance of meditation was also a topic, with “consistency” being the key to gaining any real benefit from it.
Definite food for thought.

Don’t wait for perfect.
This statement really resonated with me and will stick with me forever! One sentence, one piece of advice, that for me was a bit of an Oprah Winfrey “A-Ha!” moment. Advice that can be applied to both our business and daily lives! If we wait for perfect we may never complete our journey in any mode of life. Our absolute best, all we can do.
What I’m taking away?
Have real expectations not perfect ones in life.
Twenty Monkey: Timi Ogunyemi: Editor of Picture This.
Create. Collaborate. Celebrate.
As bloggers, Timi encouraged us to “Create” amazing content always. “Collaborate” with brands and also collaborate with one another and support one another as bloggers. Lastly,”Celebrate” what we create and accomplish and subsequently grow from learning and sharing our knowledge and collaborative experiences. Invaluable advice.
Can we just pause for a moment and admire Timi’s sense of style? Oh and he’s funny too!
Barbara Scully: Journalist, (champion of Feminism and Women in Media) Broadcaster and blogger at From My Kitchen Table.
Women were made for Social Media, we love to talk!
An inspiring, interesting and entertaining talk which managed to really get the females in the room thinking (and indeed pique the male interest in the room) about equality for women and the importance of the role of women in Media, Business and life in general.
Sonya Lennon of FrockAdvisor & Lennon Courtney.
I was intrigued to learn the behind the scenes knowledge of how the concept for FrockAdvisor was born, and successfully built upon by Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney, with copious amounts of support from Arnotts Dublin!
For me this supportive effort from Arnotts as well as the supportive roles Sonya and Brendan exuded towards each other, tied in perfectly with the “Create, Collaborate, Celebrate” vein in which Timi had spoken of previously.
Everyone needs a little help getting on, or moving up, the ladder of success and we should all help each other in any way we can!
Darragh Doyle:
Twitter Royalty and hilariously funny social media guru, Darragh had us in stitches laughing, whilst imparting social media knowledge upon us. From notorious examples of what not to do on Twitter (remember that Susan Boyle hashtag?) to the latest plug-ins we should all have on our sites! As Social Media is constantly changing and we as bloggers, are all constantly learning!
Anita Whyte owner of Dolledup.ie
Anita spoke about “Blogging for Business” – her collaborative efforts with Bloggers to provide information on a variety of topics from Beauty to Fertility, for her new and returning customers.
We were also informed that the Dolledup.ie App – is coming soon to a mobile near you. So handy!
The Beauty and Fashion Panel:
The concluding segment of the Irish Blogger Conference saw a veritable “who’s who” of some of the most respected and knowledgeable people in the Beauty/Fashion Bloggersphere and business!
Consisted of:
Anita Whyte Owner of on-line Irish Beauty Resource: Dolledup.ie
Nuala Gorham – Fashion Blogger at Penny and Polaroids.
Holly White – Stylist on TV3 Xposè and Fashion Blogger.
Joanne Larby – The Makeup Fairy.
James Patrice – Men’s Fashion Blogger and Editor of MFI Magazine.
David Cashman – Men’s Fashion & Lifestyle Blogger.
The panel provided us with tried and tested tips from dealing with on-line trolls, our own online behaviour dealing with said negativity to collaborating with brands.
A Q&A session ensued and saw fellow bloggers and industry peers from the audience, ask burning questions in an effort to learn from those in the know, who are on a larger scale than ourselves in the blogging/business fields.
There was just enough time for a group selfie with compere and comedian Marcus O’Laoire before the After Party at 10 Stephens Green. (which yours truly chose to bow out of gracefully swopping a rainy night out for some grub, pj’s and Big Brother, in that order!) Sometimes it just has to be done, who’s with me on this?!
Btw, there were goodie bags on the day for attendees, alas they were all gone when I was leaving. I believe they were fab though!
I did receive a couple of bits though instead, including a gorgeous palette by Fushia Makeup – “The Nudes” Eye Shadow palette, which is right up my nude loving street! Makeup people, makeup! (Minds out of the gutter please…)
Moving swiftly on!
I enjoyed the Irish Blogger Conference immensely, and left armed with even more knowledge and insight into the world of Social Media coupled with verification and encouragement (thanks to Rob Lipsett of LipsettFitness) to go ahead, “live the dream” and make “your passion for blogging, your job!”
Roll on Irish Blogger Conference 2016 I say!
I’d love to know did any of you attend the conference? If so I’d love to hear!
If you’re outside of Ireland, is there anything like this held in your country? I’m interested to learn if there is!
I hope you enjoyed reading about my experience attending my very first (but certainly not last!) Blogger Conference and as usual thanks for stopping by guys! Much appreciated.
